Who it may fit
Adults with autism and other developmental disabilities who need structured daily support to build life skills, increase independence and join in community activities.
Program focus
Daily living, community participation, personal growth, and skill building opportunities
Schedule and location
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Part-time participation allowed a minimum of three (3) days per week, preferred.

What this program offers

Our Day Habilitation program utilizes positive, proven, research-based best practices to help each individual reach their highest potential.

Our program emphasizes:

  • Individualized Program Plans
  • Individual growth and personal achievement
  • Measurable goals for social activities of daily living, prevocational and vocational progress
  • Family consultations and involvement
  • Highly structured life skill and community-based groups
  • Opportunities to strengthen independent abilities
  • Challenging behaviors will be addressed using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. This approach includes teaching members in a safe, positive, and respectful manner how to develop appropriate alternative behaviors.

Day Habilitation

An individualized structured program that focuses on building life, social and independent living skills through small group activities, community inclusion and personalized planning.

Our Day Habilitation Program includes:

  • Personalized goals for daily living, social, and vocational growth
  • Community outings to practice safety, money management, decision-making skills, and opportunities to volunteer
  • Life skills groups, including but not limited to, communication, self-care, cooking, self-advocacy, emotion regulation, and healthy living skills.
  • Social skills groups using role-play, video modeling, and peer practice
  • Recreational groups to include movement, yoga, Zumba, music, and more
  • An Annual Theater art-based program that builds vital life skills through creative expression and supportive community interaction and engagement.
  • Positive behavior support grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Behavior Supports

Positive, individualized behavior support that helps our members develop skills to communicate, cope, and thrive.

  • Function-based behavior plans built around each member's needs
  • Skill-building for communication and emotional regulation
  • Positive reinforcement strategies
  • Collaboration with families and program staff for ease of transitioning behaviors to home and in the community

Allied Therapies

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Occupational therapy services at NJFH are individualized and based on each person’s needs, interests and goals and addresses functional skills that support participation in daily life, including:

  • Daily living and personal care
  • Fine motor and coordination skills
  • Sensory regulation
  • Organization and task completion
  • Independent living skills
  • Adaptive strategies and supports

Speech-Language Therapy

Speech-Language Therapy services at NJFH are individualized and based on each person’s unique communication needs and goals and support the member with building skills for the following:

  • Expressing wants, needs and ideas
  • Understanding information and direction
  • Social and conversational communication
  • Functional language and vocabulary
  • Auditory memory and processing
  • Sequencing and organization
  • Problem solving and safety awareness
